Ostrich

Handmade ostrich leather watch straps in shin, belly and stonewash finishes, in a wide range of colours.

Ostrich leather watch straps

Ostrich is one of the most sought-after exotic leathers for watch straps, and one of our best sellers. It's a very durable and luxurious skin, it's comfortable from the first wear, and it has a texture that's instantly recognisable without being loud. That makes it at home on a dress watch, a vintage chronograph or a modern sports watch.

Our ostrich leathers

Ostrich shin - cut from the lower leg of the ostrich, shin leather has a distinctive scaled pattern that's often compared to reptile skin. Every skin is different, so no two straps look quite the same. It's our most popular ostrich and comes in the widest range of colours, from classic cognac, honey brown and black to midnight blue, umber and graphite grey.

Ostrich belly - exceptionally supple, with a fine, intricate grain that looks luxurious up close. It's a quieter choice than shin, ideal if you want a refined texture that doesn't take over the watch. A softer more pliable skin than the shin of the bird.

Stonewash ostrich - our stonewash finish softens the leather and gives it a subtly aged, lived-in character straight away. Meteor Grey has long been a customer favourite.

Styles

Choose a classic stitched strap, a minimal stitch design for a cleaner look, a padded strap that brings out the depth of the scales, or a flat strap for thinner and vintage watches. Many colours are also available with contrast cream or white stitching.

Made to order or ready to wear

Our ready to wear ostrich straps are in stock in the most popular sizes and ship quickly. For a specific width, length, colour or stitch combination, choose one of our made-to-order ostrich straps, or design your own in the Strap Designer.

FAQs

What's the difference between ostrich shin and ostrich belly?

Shin comes from the leg and has a bold scaled pattern. Belly comes from the underside of the body and is softer, with a finer, more subtle grain.

Is ostrich leather durable?

Yes. Ostrich is one of the strongest exotic leathers, and it's naturally flexible, so it resists cracking. With normal care, an ostrich strap will last for years.

How do I care for an ostrich strap?

Keep it away from water and let it dry naturally if it gets damp. An occasional light leather conditioner will keep it supple.

Does ostrich leather suit a dress watch?

Very well. Ostrich belly or a slim flat shin strap in black, brown or midnight blue is a classic, understated pairing for a dress watch.
